The Project
Five old friends.
One forgotten house.
Five childhood friends bought Árós with a simple idea: adulthood had pulled them apart, so they needed a reason to keep coming back. This house became that reason — a place to gather, to build with their own hands, and to share.
The renovation was supported by the Húsafriðunarnefnd (the Icelandic Heritage Foundation), as Árós holds the distinction of being the oldest timber house on the north side of Hnífsdalurá. It has sheltered countless colourful characters over the years, and some of the group's most treasured moments have been welcoming back former residents and owners — people with their own memories woven into these walls.
Now restored, Árós is ready to welcome new guests and write its next chapter.
"The best hours we've spent here have been welcoming guests who long ago lived in this beautiful house."
